Smartphones und Tablets sind aus dem musikalischen Alltag nicht mehr wegzudenken: wir hören Musik, erstellen eigene Songlisten, schauen Musikvideos, nutzen Stimmgeräte-Apps als Hilfsmittel, komponieren oder musizieren auf Apps als Ensemble oder Band uvm.

Der Diskurs um die Einbeziehung von Apps in Lernsettings reicht von einer Heraufbeschwörung eines Wundermittels gegen musikpädagogische Probleme bis hin zu bewahrpädagogischen Verzichtserklärungen, die sich im Verbot der Mobilgeräte im Unterricht widerspiegeln. Insgesamt steht eine umfangreiche musikpädagogische Aufarbeitung jenes rasant weiterentwickelnden Themas bislang aus. Ungeklärt sind etwa Fragen, welche musikpädagogischen Chancen und Herausforderungen das Arbeiten mit Smartphones und Tablets für die Kulturelle Bildung bietet oder was das Besondere einer Vermittlungspraxis mit Technologien sein kann.

Längst hat sich eine Praxis des Musikmachens mit Apps etabliert. Neben etablierten Künstler_innen wie Björk (2011), Muse (2012) etc. nutzen immer mehr Musiker_innen Musikapps, um sich künstlerisch zu artikulieren. Möglich wird das durch mehrere tausend Musikapps, die musikalische und musikbezogene Kontexte auf unterschiedliche Weise durchdringen, ob als Unterstützung, Ergänzung oder als Mittelpunkt der Praxis. Somit ist auch zu fragen, welche Perspektiven Künstler_innen und Appentwickler_innen auf das Phänomen appbasierter Musik richten.

Mit der internationalen Fachtagung »Mobile Music in the Making 2017« soll eine Austauschplattform geschaffen werden, die Akteur_innen verschiedener Kontexte zusammenbringt und auf der sich jene über Perspektiven musikalisch-kultureller Bildung und Kunst mit mobilen Technologien im Jahr 2017 austauschen.

Das Ziel der Tagung ist damit eine erste intensivere, interdisziplinäre Auseinandersetzung mit dem Thema musikalischer Bildung und Apps sowie Kontexten musikalischer Praxis mit Apps.

Die Fachtagung findet vom 10. – 11. März 2017 an der Universität der Künste Berlin (UdK) statt. Veranstalter ist die Forschungsstelle Appmusik (FAM), die seit 2014 im Rahmen des BMBF-geförderten Verbundprojektes Touch:Music mit der Bundesakademie Wolfenbüttel eine Weiterbildung zum Thema Musik mit Apps in der Kulturellen Bildung entwickelt hat.

Aufruf für Konferenzbeiträge

Auf der Tagung soll die Möglichkeit bestehen,

1. in Vorträgen (40 min) oder als Posterpräsentation den Gegenstand aus verschiedenen Perspektiven (Forschung, Diskurse, pädagogischer Praxis oder Technikentwicklung) zu beleuchten sowie Diskussionsrunden anzubieten, in denen Methoden und Hardware vorgestellt und mit den Tagungsteilnehem_innen diskutiert werden. Ebenso wird
2. die Gelegenheit geboten, dass Pädagog_innen aus Musik-AGs oder Teilnehmer_innen des Zertifikatskurses tAPP etc. öffentlich Ausschnitte ihrer Praxis präsentieren und Künstler_innen und Entwickler_innen Einblicke in ihre Beschäftigung mit Apps geben.

Die Ausschreibung richtet sich sowohl an Pädagog_innen und Musikvermittler_innen innerhalb der Kulturellen Bildung, die Erfahrungen aus Projekten mit mobilen Devices haben, Wissenschaftler_innen aus der Schnittstelle zwischen Musik- und Medienpädagogik, als auch Appmusiker_innen und -Entwickler_innen.

International symposium. „Perspectives of musical and cultural education and app music“

Smartphones and tablets have become essential for music in our everyday life: we listen to music, make our own playlists, watch music videos, use tuning apps as tools, compose or play with apps in ensembles or bands, etc.

Mobile phone applications as a teaching tool find themselves at the epicenter of an ongoing debate over reforms in our educational system. On one hand these apps are regarded as a panacea for all pedagogical challenges, on the other they are shunned and banned from usage in classrooms. This growing controversy requires addressing, particularly regarding cultural goods, such as music and art. Questions concerning this matter ought to be approached by weighing the benefits of incorporating these technologies in current teaching methods.

Practices of making music with apps have been well established. Along with popular artists like Björk (2011) and Muse (2012), more and more musicians use apps for new forms of artistic expression. Musical contexts are pervaded by thousands of music apps as a support, supplement or as the centre of an ongoing practice. This raises the question how artists and app developers see new perspectives by making music with apps.

The international symposium „Mobile Music in the Making 2017“ will create an exchange platform for practitioners of different contexts to discuss the new perspectives of musical and cultural education and the subject of art with mobile technologies in 2017.

The goal of the conference is to establish an intensive and interdisciplinary discussion about the relation of music, education and technology.

The symposium takes place between 10th and 11th March 2017 at the Berlin University of the Arts and is organized by the Research Center for Mobile Music Making & App Music. Since 2014, the Research Center for Mobile Music Making & App Music has been developing a training regarding music with apps in the cultural education within the joint project (Touch:Music) with the Federal Academy Wolfenbüttel which is supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

Call for Papers

The conference will give you the possibilities to

1. discuss the subject from different angles (research, discourses, pedagogical practice or technological development), either in lectures (40 minutes) or as a poster presentation, discussion rounds can be used to introduce methods and hardware
2. app musicians, teachers or participants of the certificate course tAPP, as well as artists and app developers to present samples of their work.

The tender is addressed to educators and pedagogues within the cultural education who bring along experiences with projects with mobile devices and also to researchers coming from the field of music education in connection with media education as well as app musicians and app developers. Please send your applications with an informative title, a short abstract (800 words) and 5 keywords, either in german or english to forschungsstelle@appmusik.de until 6^th November 2016.

Forschungsstelle Appmusik

Die Forschungsstelle Appmusik wurde an der Universität der Künste Berlin gegründet und beschäftigt sich mit der systematischen Erfassung des Phänomens Appmusik sowie den resultierenden pädagogischen Implikationen dieser veränderten musikalischen Praxis.
